AIC Demonstrates Its Innovative All-Flash System with Ultra High-Capacity combining Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory and E1.S Intel® SSDs for the Data Center at Computex 2019

Taipei, Taiwan(May 29, 2019)AIC Inc., (from now on referred to as “AIC”), a leading provider in enterprise storage and server solutions, today announce to demonstrate its innovative all-flash storage server- Grays Peak that powered by Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory and Intel® DC SSDs in an E1.S form factor (formerly referred to as the “ruler”, the E1.S form factor is based on the EDSFF specification) , and Intel® Ethernet Network Adapters for OCP 3.0 in Computex 2019.

The soaring increase in data-intensive applications is dramatically shaping the landscape of datacenters and related industries. Operators of data centers and enterprises are facing challenges of improving performance of data latency and searching for solution of storing ever-expanding data. In Computex 2019, AIC collaborated with Intel to live demonstrate on Grays Peak. AIC’s Grays Peak (model name: FB128-LX), a 1U rackmount storage server with superior capacity of storage and memory, is capable of supporting 36 units of Intel E1.S short “ruler” NVMe SSDs. With Intel E1.S Intel® SSDs, the Grays Peak solution delivers unprecedented levels of storage density of up to 144TB. Meanwhile, the system designs is powered by 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and Intel Optane DC persistent memory providing up-to 6TB memory. Together, with Intel Optane DC persistent memory and E1.S Intel SSDs, Grays Peak provides enormous memory and storage capacity that is perfect for applications that require large in-memory database and storage, for example like data warehouse. In the live demo of Computex 2019, AIC demonstrates SQL workload with Microsoft Server 2019 and SQL Server 2017. While Intel Optane DC persistent memory is flexible to configure to various modes, in this demo, Intel Optane DC persistent memory is set to “mixed mode (Memory & App-Direct mode)” to perform the capability for both system memory and cache disk, which not only empowers great performance of data moving but also allows great flexibility for configuration based on the workload requirements by the pool of Intel Optane DC persistent memory. While, it’s also using Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) technology to configure the E1.S Intel SSDs for ultra-high capacity of storage for database with NVMe SSD performance potential without the complexity and additional power required of a traditional Hardware RAID HBA.  And, all of these can be delivered with its powerful 1U system, Grays Peak, that advances on capacity and performance for in-memory database performance for cloud data centers as well as hybrid cloud or enterprise customer with constraint environment.

Aside from its ultra-high storage and memory capacity, Grays Peak can be ideal for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) workloads when combining 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor SKUs optimized for NFV and Intel Ethernet Network Adapters for OCP 3.0. In the Computex 2019, the Intel Ethernet Network Adapters for OCP 3.0, will run another live demo on Grays Peak, powered by 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The demonstration is to showcase Intel® Speed Select Technology-Base Frequency (Intel SST-BF) and Intel Ethernet Network Adapters for OCP 3.0 for Open vSwitch with Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) workload on Grays Peak allows system administrators to control over CPU performance and to direct more frequency to higher priority workloads, boosting Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) performance when needed, enabling data centers to scale out more effectively while reducing complexity and cost, is ideal for edge computing, networking, and telco usage scenarios.

“AIC is committed to be an early adopter on latest and most innovative technologies. We are excited to partner with Intel to showcase our latest storage design, Grays Peak for various workloads using E1.S Intel SSDs, Intel Ethernet Network Adapters for OCP 3.0 and the cutting-edge innovation of Intel Optane DC persistent memory in Computex 2019” said Michael Liang, CEO and president of AIC.“ We are certain with all of the great Intel technologies, Grays Peak can fulfill wide range of usage scenarios with its great capacity of storage and memory and can support our customers to run most critical workloads through the most critical times.”

“Data-centric computing requires both high performance and system balance to move, store and process the massive amount of data available today,” said Chris Tobias, Director, Optane Acceleration Team and Non-Volatile Storage Business Development at Intel. “In Grays Peak, AIC worked with Intel to harness the full capabilities across our data-centric product portfolio, so this platform is poised to deliver customer’s most demanding digital workloads.”
